Mission Statement

Local people coming together to welcome and support refugee families to build a safe future in our city and become a flourishing part of the community.

About Us

In November 2019 a Syrian family arrived at Gatwick airport from Egypt. They were greeted by an excited group of people from Canterbury. Volunteers from Canterbury Welcomes Refugees had been preparing for months to welcome this refugee family into their community.

It was a moment that created a bond between strangers that would change all their lives.

My role is helping with English conversation and generally being  a friendly support.

Local  Volunteer

I am pleased to be able to do some small things to help people displaced from their homes and lives as a result of war.

Canterbury Welcomes Refugees would like to extend very many thanks to the small group of students at the University of Kent who generously gave their time and expertise  to develop this website for us.
